Unauthorised Ticket Resale Platforms

The Royal New Zealand Ballet has seen an increase in activity from unauthorised ticket resale platforms, including StubHub. We want to make sure our audiences know where to buy tickets with confidence.

StubHub and Viagogo are not authorised sellers of RNZB tickets

Only tickets bought through the venue box office, Ticketek or Ticketmaster can be verified as valid; StubHub and Viagogo are not authorised sellers of RNZB tickets.

Third-party resale sites such as StubHub and Viagogo are not authorised sellers of RNZB tickets. The RNZB has never had an agreement for ticket sales with either platform, and neither has ever been a ticket seller for an RNZB event. The same applies to all third-party resale sites.

These platforms have no access to the RNZB’s or our performance venue ticketing systems. They cannot know how many tickets have been sold for a performance or how much demand there is at any given time. Listings on these sites, including claims that a show is almost sold out, are not based on information from the RNZB. Their access to tickets is no better than that of any member of the public.

The RNZB cannot verify tickets bought through these platforms. Tickets bought this way may be invalid, may cost far more than face value, and may not be honoured at the door.

Where to buy

Only tickets purchased through authorised channels can be verified as valid. For RNZB performances, these are:

  • The box office of the performance venue
  • Ticketek
  • Ticketmaster
  • The links on our website show pages (www.rnzb.org.nz)

The ticketing agency for each performance is appointed by the venue, and the RNZB does not place tickets on sale with multiple agencies. Our website links directly to the correct authorised seller for every season and venue, so the safest way to buy is to start at rnzb.org.nz.

If you have already bought through a third party

Please contact us at subscribe@rnzb.org.nz with your booking details before the performance and we will do what we can to help you. Please also contact your bank or card provider if you have concerns about a transaction. You can report concerns about misleading online sellers to the Commerce Commission, which has previously taken legal action over claims made by Viagogo in New Zealand.

About the RNZB

Founded in 1953, the Royal New Zealand Ballet is Aotearoa’s national ballet company. As a charity, and an organisation which receives significant public funding through the Ministry for Culture and Heritage, Manatū Taonga, we tour performances throughout the country so that audiences in every region can experience ballet. We take full box office risk on our productions, which means every ticket sold through an authorised channel directly supports our dancers, our artists and our work.

We look forward to welcoming you to the theatre.
