Following its hugely successful world premiere last year, the Royal New Zealand Ballet is bringing A Midsummer Night’s Dream back for four Wellington shows only. Created for the RNZB by one of the most sought after choreographers on the international stage, Liam Scarlett, A Midsummer Night’s Dream was an overnight sensation.

“The magic and delight never let up. This is an absolutely splendid production of which choreographer, Liam Scarlett and the Royal New Zealand Ballet can be justifiably proud.  One can see why he (Scarlett) is the current wunderkind of British ballet.”  Ann Hunt, Dominion Post

Be transported to a fantastical world of dazzling dance, music and enchantment.  Lovers, fairies, mischief and moonlight conspire in Shakespeare’s classic tale, vividly retold with sparkling steps and Mendelssohn’s famous score.

Distinguished New Zealand designer Tracy Grant Lord (Cinderella, Romeo and Juliet) created the glorious vision of Shakespeare’s iconic characters and enchanted wood, illuminated with lighting by Kendall Smith (Giselle).

Don’t miss your chance to see this spectacular ballet when it returns to the St James Theatre accompanied by Orchestra Wellington – a wonderful treat for young and old, lovers of dance, music and sheer theatrical magic.

A Midsummer Night’s Dream is a Co-Production between the Royal New Zealand Ballet and Queensland Ballet.

What are they saying

The dance rises to such heights. An extraordinarily beautiful night at the ballet that will appeal across generations.

Jennifer Shennan

It is serendipity in a production when all the elements come together in one harmonious and glorious whole, but it cannot always be guaranteed no matter the individual talents of those involved. With the RNZB’s sparkling new production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream the company has hit the jackpot.
