Timothy Ching

Timothy Michael Ching was born and raised in Singapore. He started his training at Singapore Ballet Academy at the age of 13, before joining School of The Arts Singapore to further his studies. He was awarded a scholarship after his success at the Asian Grand Prix ballet competition and continued his training at the prestigious New Zealand School of Dance (NZSD) majoring in classical ballet under the tutelage of Qi Huan and Nadine Tyson.  

In his second year at NZSD, he competed in the Alana Haines Australasian Awards where he was awarded a full scholarship to train for six weeks at the Houston Ballet Academy. During his time in New Zealand, he performed a large range of repertoire including roles from Harlequin and Swan Lake. For his graduation season, Timothy was selected to perform one of the lead Pas De Deux in Helgi Tomasson’s Handel – A Celebration staged by Betsy Erickson, Ballet Master at San Francisco Ballet.  

His professional experience commenced in 2020, where he was a part of the debut of Ballet Collective Aotearoa founded by Turid Revfeim, featuring works by choreographers Cameron McMillan, Loughlan Prior and Sarah Knox. After returning to Singapore, he trained and performed with Singapore Ballet. At the end of his mandatory national service in Singapore, Timothy joined the Royal New Zealand Ballet as an artist in October 2023. 

Timothy’s first performance with the RNZB was Hansel & Gretel by Loughlan Prior, performing as a Child, Ghost Child, Boogieman and Pink Iced Gingerbread Man. In Russell Kerr’s Swan Lake, he performed as the Jester, a Peasant, and in the Neapolitan Divertissement.
