Rose Xu joined the Royal New Zealand Ballet as an Artist in 2023.

Born in Wollongong, Australia, Rose moved to Melbourne to train at the Australian Conservatoire of Ballet. Her earlier training was complemented by classes through The Australian Ballet’s after-school programme, and from 2017 – 2020 she attended the Shanghai Theatre Academy Affiliated Dance School. While training in China she performed with the Suzhou Ballet Company in their production of Swan Lake (2019) as a corps de ballet member.

Since arriving in New Zealand Rose has performed in works including George Balanchine’s Serenade, Holberg Suite by Greg Horsman, Romeo and Juliet by Andrea Schermoly, and various roles in Loughlan Prior’s Hansel and Gretel. In more recent productions, Rose featured in Tutus on Tour (2024) in Shaun James Kelly’s Prismatic and the Hungarian Divertissement and Cygnets from Russell’s Kerr’s Swan Lake, both of which she reprised during the company’s national tour of Swan Lake. She also appeared in RNZB’s mixed bill, Solace, where she performed in Infra by Wayne McGregor, and in the ‘Undone’ pas de deux in Alice Topp’s High Tide.
