Levi Teachout
Levi Teachout joined the Royal New Zealand Ballet in 2020 having guested with the company in Loughlan Prior’s Hansel & Gretel in 2019. Levi’s roles with the RNZB include Danielle Rowe’s Remember, Mama (Tutus on Tour), and he was part of the original cast for Sarah Foster-Sproull’s Ultra Folly, created for the cancelled Venus Rising tour in 2020. In 2020’s The Sleeping Beauty, Levi’s roles included Puss in Boots. In 2022, he choreographed I Deeply Know, which formed part of the RNZB’s all-digital season Ballet Bites. He also performed in Loughlan Prior’s Cinderella, Alice Topp’s Aurum, Twyla Tharp’s Waterbaby Bagatelles™ and as Te Aitanga Pēpeke in Laura McQueen Schultz and Nick Schultz’s Tāne and the Kiwi. As part of the Ballet Bites digital season he performed in Alice Topp’s Absence of Light. Levi’s most recent roles include Friar Laurence in Romeo & Juliet, the Sand Man in Hansel & Gretel and the ‘Clay’ pas de deux in Alice Topp’s Logos.
He began his ballet training at the age of nine at Pacific Northwest Ballet, Seattle. He studied at PNB for eleven years and graduated from their Professional Division programme in 2016. While at PNB, Levi performed in the company’s productions of The Sleeping Beauty, Swan Lake, Don Quixote, and Crystal Pite’s Emergence. Upon graduation, Levi began as an apprentice with the Grand Rapids Ballet under the artistic direction of Patricia Barker and was promoted to the main company in 2017. In his three years with GRB, he worked with choreographers such as Penny Saunders, Olivier Wevers, and Alejandro Cerrudo.
