Joshua Guillemot-Rodgerson
Joshua Guillemot-Rodgerson was born in Christchurch, New Zealand and holds a BFA in Dance from The Juilliard School. He joined the Royal New Zealand Ballet midway through the 2020 season as a guest artist, performing Prince Désiré in The Sleeping Beauty, and became a full-time company member in 2021. That same year he was promoted to Soloist during Ethan Stiefel and Johan Kobborg’s Giselle, and to Principal Artist during the 2024 season in Russell Kerr’s Swan Lake.
Other highlights of Joshua’s repertoire with the RNZB include Romeo in Andrea Schermoly’s Romeo & Juliet (2023), Prince Charming and the Royal Messenger in Loughlan Prior’s Cinderella (2022), Oberon and Demetrius in Liam Scarlett’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream (2021/2025), the pas de deux from Christopher Wheeldon’s After the Rain (2022), Wayne McGregor’s Infra (2024), Harry Beecham in Cathy Marston’s My Brilliant Career (2025), and the Nutcracker Prince in Ty King-Wall’s The Nutcracker (2025). He has also enjoyed being part of the creation of contemporary works such as Sarah Foster-Sproull’s The Autumn Ball, and Moss Te Ururangi Patterson’s Home, Land & Sea.
Joshua’s love of dance began at the age of four after seeing a tango on Shortland Street. A tap dancer for many years, he transitioned to ballet at fourteen when he left New Zealand to study full-time at Interlochen Arts Academy in Michigan. He went on to study at Juilliard and attended summer intensives with Nederlands Dans Theater, Springboard Danse Montréal, Axis Connect New York, and with Glen Harris at Southern Ballet.
Prior to joining the RNZB, Joshua danced with Houston Ballet from 2017-2020. Highlights of his time there include performing in Aszure Barton’s Come In and Houston Ballet’s collaboration with Theatre Under The Stars in Oklahoma! In 2020, he was named one of Pointe Magazine’s Stars of the Corps. He has received critical acclaim from The New York Times and Los Angeles Times for his performances in Paul Taylor’s Roses and Merce Cunningham’s Night of 100 Solos, and was featured in the New Zealand documentary series Dare to Dream. He was recognised in both ballet and tap at the 2013 YoungArts competition.
Joshua is passionate about teaching and choreography. He has taught at dance schools throughout New Zealand, at the New Zealand Boys’ Dance Convention, and most recently at the Southern Ballet Summer Intensive. His choreography was featured in Juilliard’s Choreographic Honors for three years, and he premiered works in Juilliard’s Choreographers and Composers Concert (2015) and Senior Production (2017). For the RNZB, he choreographed King of the Castle for RNZB Screen and created Dazzlehands for the RNZB Education Department’s Te Papa Children’s Ballet season, which has found an extended life in both the 2025 and 2026 programs.
Joshua is supported by the Deane Endowment Trust.
