Ella Chambers
Ella Chambers joined the Royal New Zealand Ballet as a guest for The Nutcracker in October 2018, capping off her graduate year at The Australian Ballet School. She joined the company as an apprentice in 2019, later being promoted to Artist.
In 2024’s Swan Lake, Ella danced in the Pas de Trois in Act I, as well as taking on the roles of a Cygnet, the Hungarian divertissement, and a princess in Act III. In RNZB’s 2023 Lightscapes season, Ella performed in Annabelle Lopez Ochoa’s Requiem for a Rose, George Balanchine’s Serenade and the ‘Rain’ pas de deux in Alice Topp’s Logos. That year she also performed as Gretel in Loughlan Prior’s Hansel and Gretel and had the role of Mahina created on her in Laura McQueen Schultz and Nick Schultz’s Tiaho Pō. In RNZB’s 70th Gala, she performed in Andrea Schermoly’s Stand to Reason, Shaun James Kelly’s Prismatic and as a Wili in Giselle.
Other career highlights include Penny Saunder’s Berceuse, Bournonville’s Napoli, Korimako in Tanē and the Kiwi, Little Red Riding Hood in The Sleeping Beauty, Paquita corps de ballet, Peasant and Wili in Giselle, Twyla Tharp’s Waterbaby Bagatelles™ and Alice Topp’s Aurum.
Ella was born in Sydney, Australia. She started dancing at La Vive Classique in Port Macquarie, at the age of eight. In 2014, she moved to Melbourne to commence full-time training at the Australian Ballet School. During her time there, her favourite role was Cupid from the second act of Don Quixote.
