Dr Nicola Ngawati

Dr Nicola Ngawati (Ngāpuhi, Ngati Hine) has extensive experience as a senior public servant working within the Crown/Māori relationship in various contexts. She has previously represented New Zealand offshore as part of the diplomatic service and worked in the areas of Pacific development, trade, diversity and inclusion, equal employment opportunities and human rights. Currently the Director of Equity and Engagement at Te Pataka Whaioranga Pharmac and a Director of Tāwhiri Festivals and Experiences Limited.

Previous Board roles include Diversity Works New Zealand and Endometriosis New Zealand. Member of the NZ Institute of Directors and holds a Doctor of Government (PhD) from the Victoria University of Wellington. Her PhD research examined the representation of Māori on and offshore through the use of Māori (people, images and diplomatic practice) furthering her interest in all forms of artistic form and expression.
