Calum was born in the UK and took up dance at the age of eight. At fourteen, his family emigrated to New Zealand, and he began to pursue ballet as a potential career path. At age seventeen, he entered the New Zealand School of Dance, from which he graduated in 2018. His graduation performances included the second movement pas de deux from Sir Kenneth MacMillan’s Concerto and the After the Rain pas de deux by Christopher Wheeldon, which he revisited for Tutus on Tour (2023).

In 2022, he had a featured role in Olivier Wevers’ The Sofa and performed in Shaun James Kelly’s The Ground Beneath Our Feet, Alice Topp’s Aurum, Sarah Foster-Sproull’s The Autumn Ball and Twyla Tharp’s Waterbaby Bagatelles™. In the digital season Ballet Bites Calum performed in Levi Teachout’s I Deeply Know, Shaun James Kelly’s Alba, Penny Saunders’ Berceuse, and Sarah Foster-Sproull’s Artemis Rising. Calum also danced in the Pas de Trois in Russell Kerr’s Swan Lake (2024).
