Covent Garden performances cancelled

13 March 2020

The Royal Opera House has today advised us that, due to the ongoing impact of Covid-19 on international travel, International Draftworks, the showcase for emerging choreographers from ballet companies around the world, which was due to take place at the Linbury Theatre, Royal Opera House, Covent Garden from 19 – 21 March, has been cancelled.

RNZB Choreographer in Residence Loughlan Prior was due to premiere his new short work, Ultra Violet, created to the piano trio of the same name by composer Claire Cowan and with dancers Katherine Minor, Kirby Selchow, Paul Mathews and Joseph Skelton, at International Draftworks on 19 March.

While we are naturally disappointed, we support the decision to cancel, in the interests of maintaining the health of artists, audiences and the wider community. We hope that there will be an opportunity to share Ultra Violet with dance lovers, whether in Aotearoa or abroad, in the future.

We would like to thank everyone who has supported this project, particularly the En Pointe Patrons of the Ballet Foundation of New Zealand for contributions towards international travel costs, and Isaac Hikaka for his support of the music recording of Ultra Violet for performance.

We also extend our thanks and best wishes to the team at The Royal Ballet and the Royal Opera House for their original invitation and look forward to staying in touch regarding new opportunities to work together.
