National Mentor Programme

The Royal New Zealand Ballet’s National Mentor Programme offers dedicated students a unique opportunity to be mentored by dancers and the Artistic Team of the Royal New Zealand Ballet. Participants spend time with their Mentor each season, take part in intensives and gain valuable insights into the world of professional dance. This one-year programme is exclusively available to students who are based in New Zealand, are 13 years or older on January 1 2024 and are studying at Intermediate level or higher in classical ballet.  

Entry into the programme is by application only and successful applicants will pay a fee of $100 for the year.  

Selected mentored students will:  

  • Participate in two intensives throughout the year, held at RNZB studios at St James Theatre, Wellington 
  • Free open classes with RNZB Artistic Staff 
  • On stage meetings with Mentor during two RNZB seasons 
  • Receive two complimentary tickets to Swan Lake, Solace and Midsummer Night’s Dream

To apply: 

  1. Make a video of yourself at the Barre that includes Pliés, Tendu and Adagio, Pirouettes and Allegro in the Centre. Also include one classical variation on stage or studio, en pointe for female applicants. Video should be a maximum of 4-5 minutes long.
  2. Upload your video to YouTube or Vimeo
  3. Pay the $12 application fee
  4. Complete the Application Survey online, including your video link
