Voyages opens the studio doors to friends and whānau, as RNZB dancers are given the space to step into the role of choreographer – some as emerging choreographers, others exploring new creative concepts.
Creating original works on their fellow dancers, they navigate not just movement, but the full scope of artistic story telling – from choreography and music to costume and concept.

These works are deeply personal, shaped by the voices, experiences and imaginations of the dancers themselves.

The name Voyages harks back to the history of Aotearoa New Zealand – an island nation formed through great expeditions of discovery across generations, driven by the courage and curiosity of our ancestors who pursued what lay beyond the horizon.
In the same spirit, our next generation of choreographers embark on their own creative expeditions, forging new journeys in dance.
