Jamie was born in Brisbane to New Zealand parents and started ballet at the age of three. When he was 14 he moved to Melbourne to train full time at The Australian Ballet School, graduating as School Captain in 2018.
While a student he performed with The Australian Ballet in the corps de ballet for Coppélia and The Merry Widow. During 2019 he was a Jette Parker Young Artist with Queensland Ballet, performing in iconic works including Jiří Kylián’s Soldier’s Mass and Balanchine’s Serenade, as well as the company’s new choreography season for young and emerging artists, Synergy.
Jamie began his career with the RNZB in 2019 as a guest dancer for Hansel & Gretel by Loughlan Prior and subsequently joined the company as one of two inaugural Friedlander Foundation Scholars in 2020. In 2021 he was promoted to company member, performing as The Soldier’s Shadow in a new production of The Soldier’s Tale, presented in association with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra. Other performance highlights in 2021 included dancing the title role in The Ugly Duckling at Te Papa Tongarewa Museum and performing Wilfred in Ethan Stiefel and Johan Kobborg’s restaging of Giselle.
In 2022 Jamie will be taking a break from the stage to join the RNZB’s Education Team as a Dance Educator. Jamie looks forward to travelling to the wider communities of Aotearoa to pass on his love and knowledge of ballet.
