Participating in an RNZB Open Class is a fantastic way for young dancers to enhance their technique and experience working with the Royal New Zealand Ballet’s Artistic Staff first-hand. Offered in line with our touring schedule, these classes aim to connect young dancers with their national ballet company.
Bookings open approximately one month prior to the class taking place. Not all levels will be available in each centre.
Please ensure you meet both the age and grade eligibility criteria as stipulated below prior to registering:
Junior: Dancers 8 years or older and dancing at Grade 3 level or above
Junior/Intermediate: Dancers 8 years or older and dancing between Grade 3 and Intermediate level
Intermediate: Dancers 11 years or older and dancing at Intermediate Foundation, Grade 7+ or equivalent
Intermediate/Advanced: Dancers 11 years or older and dancing at Intermediate Foundation, Grade 7+ or equivalent. Participants cannot be dancing higher than Advanced level.
Advanced: Dancers 13 years or older and dancing at a minimum of Advanced Foundation level
The RNZB reserves the right to exclude students on the day who are not at the required standard. All times are subject to change.

Saturday 4 March, 4:30-5:45pm. Mixed Level – Age 11+ AND dancing at grade 6 or higher
Kerikeri – Turner Centre
Thursday 9 March, 4:30-5:45pm. Mixed Level – Age 11+ AND dancing at grade 6 or higher
Nelson – Theatre Royal
Wednesday 8 March, 4:30-5:45pm – Junior
Thursday 9 March, 4:30-5:45pm – Intermediate/Advanced
Can’t make an in person class?
Practise at home by completing one of our online open classes. Available for a variety of levels, these online classes are also taught by Royal New Zealand Ballet Artistic Staff giving you a taste of the real thing.
