Online Open Classes – new classes available now
We’re happy to let you know that the RNZB Ballet Masters have created another series of online classes. See the links below and keep an eye on the website as there will be more classes to follow.

Update – Wednesday 18 March 2020
The Royal New Zealand Ballet is taking its responsibility to maintain the health and well-being of all artists, audiences and the wider community very seriously.The RNZB Dance Centre is now closed to all external visitors.

We have therefore rescheduled the Open Classes and Ballet for Boys which were due to take place on Sunday 29 March at the RNZB Dance Centre.

Please not that the Open Classes scheduled for Sunday 31 May will not now take place. We will advise a new date as soon as we are able.

If you have already registered online your enrolment for 29 March will automatically be transferred to the new date. For enquiries about refunds please contact our ticketing team on 04 8311056 or If you are not able to attend, please consider donating the enrolment fee to the RNZB to help support future performances and education events.


Open Classes

We help to develop young dancers through a range of exciting classes for students of all levels. These non-syllabus open classes will be led by our artistic staff and RNZB dancers. They offer ballet students a valuable opportunity to enhance their technique while engaging with your national ballet company.

Please note that the criteria for participation in Open Classes have changed – see below.

Junior: Dancers must be at least 8 years old and dancing at Grade 3 level or above
Intermediate: Dancers must be at least 11 years old and dancing at a minimum level of Intermediate Foundation, Grades 7 – 8, Intermediate or equivalent.
Advanced: Dancers must be at least 14 years old and dancing at a minimum of Advanced Foundation level

  • Not all class levels are offered in every centre for every season.
  • The RNZB reserves the right to exclude students on the day who are not at the required standard.
