Open Classes (including Regional Open Classes)

Covid update 12 October. Bookings are now open for the Wellington Open Classes ONLY. Classes in all other centres until the end of 2021 have been CANCELLED

Health and Safety Protocol
The wellbeing and health of our staff and dancers, and of our visitors our top priority. Please note the following safety measures:

  • Only students taking part in the classes will be allowed into the Dance Centre (no parents allowed in the building).
  • All students must sign in via the Covid app or in writing when they arrive.
  • Please wear a mask when you are in common spaces – hallways, bathrooms etc.
  • Students must try and keep one metre distance between them and others when they are in the common areas.
  • Barres will be sanitised between classes.
  • Staff will keep a one metre distance when giving corrections.
  • Please bring your own water bottle

Please note that our artistic staff will NOT be wearing masks when teaching.

We offer an exciting range of classes for students of all levels. These non-syllabus open classes are led by our artistic staff. They offer ballet students a valuable opportunity to enhance their technique while engaging with your national ballet company.All times subject to change. Bookings open online one month before the season starts.

Please note the criteria for participation in Open Classes. Students must meet both  criteria (both age and ballet level) to be eligible.

Junior: Dancers must be at least 8 years old and dancing at Grade 3 level or above
Junior/Intermediate:  Dancers who are 8 years old and dancing at Grade 3 level and dancers up to Intermediate level or equivalent may attend
Intermediate: Dancers must be at least 11 years old and dancing at a minimum level of Intermediate Foundation, Grades 7 – 8, Intermediate or equivalent
Intermediate/Advanced: Dancers who are 11 years old and dancing at Intermediate Foundation, Grades 7 – 8, Intermediate or equivalent and dancers up to Advanced Level may attend
Advanced: Dancers must be at least 14 years old and dancing at a minimum of Advanced Foundation level

  • Not all class levels are offered in every centre for every season.
  • The RNZB reserves the right to exclude students on the day who are not at the required standard.
  • Online bookings open one month before the classes
