RNZB Whānau Day at Te Papa

Saturday 5 October 2019, 10am – 3pm

The RNZB comes to Te Papa for a day of learning and fun for all ages. You’ll have the chance to look behind the scenes and see the dancers in class and in rehearsal for our exciting new production of Hansel & Gretel. This year, for the first time there will be dance sessions for pre-schoolers as well as our ever popular workshops for children aged 5-8, together with face painting and lots of craft activities. See you there!

Watch the dancers of the Royal New Zealand Ballet in their daily warm-up, from stretches at the barre to complex jumps, turns and combinations.

Hansel & Gretel – work in progress
25 minute sessions beginning at 11.15am, 11.45am, 12.15pm, 1pm & 1.30pm

Get a taste of the RNZB’s new production Hansel & Gretel, with this rare opportunity to watch the dancers in a working rehearsal with RNZB Artistic Director Patricia Barker.

First Steps (new this year)
30 minute sessions beginning at 10:30am and 11:30am

Wellington foyer, Level 2 for the under 5s
Especially for the little ones, thirty minutes of movement and fun with RNZB Dance Educator Chloe Bishop. No registration required.

Story time
10:15am and 12:15pm
Te Marae, Level 4, for primary school-age children

Introducing one of ballet’s most-loved stories Hansel & Gretel. Explore the art of mime and gesture while hearing this captivating tale. No registration required.

Dance workshops
11am-12pm and 1pm-2pm (Booking fee $5)
Te Marae, Level 4, for children aged 5 – 8
Explore characters, steps and scenes based on the ballet  Hansel & Gretel. Learn some simple ballet steps and positions, led by RNZB Dance Educator Pagan Dorgan.

Face painting, colouring, dress-ups and crafts from 10am–3pm in Hinetitama and Te Huka ā Tai
