Accessible Performances

Relaxed and Sensory Friendly Performances
Experience the joy of dance in a supportive theatre setting.
At these performances there is a more casual approach to theatre etiquette and the need to sit still and quiet during the show, with a relaxed attitude to noise in the auditorium. Audience members can come and go as needed, and a breakout space is available. Headphones, sunglasses or quiet fidget toys are welcome. The aim is to create a safe, welcoming and enjoyable theatre visit.
Autistic and neurodivergent children and adults, and anyone who benefits from a supportive theatre environment, may especially enjoy experiencing the world of ballet in this relaxed setting.
A video is prepared for each performance, offering clear information about what to expect. This can be a great tool for those who appreciate extra preparation before their visit.

Audio Described Performances
In 2025, RNZB is proud to be presenting audio description in Wellington, Auckland and Christchurch during our Nutcracker season.
These performances will give blind and vision impaired patrons the opportunity to attend a performance with a trained audio describer broadcasting commentary which patrons will hear through an earpiece.
A free Touch Tour and an introduction to ballet terminology will be held before the show. Touch set pieces, feel costumes, handle key props and learn about the various ballet terms and the shapes and quality of the movements from the ballet.
