Teagan Tank graduated from the New Zealand School of Dance in December 2018 and joined the Royal New Zealand Ballet as the Todd Scholar in January 2019, with performance highlights including Serenade by George Balanchine and Stand to Reason by Andrea Schermoly. After being promoted to Artist in 2020, Teagan performed in The Sleeping Beauty as the Fairy of Generosity.
During 2021, Teagan performed in the RNZB’s season of Giselle, The Firebird with Paquita and Liam Scarlett’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. In 2022, she had roles in The Waltz of the Pohutukawa Flowers from Val Caniparoli’s The Nutcracker and Twyla Tharp’s Waterbaby Bagatelles™. She also performed as Pūkeko in Laura McQueen Schultz and Nick Schultz’s Tāne and the Kiwi. As part of the digital season Ballet Bites she performed in Sarah Foster-Sproull’s Artemis Rising.
Teagan was born in South Africa and grew up in Christchurch. She began dancing at the age of three and trained at the Anneliese Gilberd Academy from the age of eleven. Teagan was accepted as a full-time classical major at the New Zealand School of Dance in 2016 after being in the Associate Programme for three years, and also participated in the RNZB National Mentor Programme.
During her time at the NZSD, Teagan was chosen for a four week exchange at Canada’s National Ballet School and to participate in the 2018 Prix De Lausanne Partner Schools Choreographic Project in Switzerland. In 2018, Teagan performed in the Royal New Zealand Ballet’s Dancing with Mozart in the corps de ballet for Balanchine’s Divertimento No. 15 and also joined the RNZB’s corps de ballet in Val Caniparoli’s The Nutcracker.
