Monet Galea-Hewitt

Monet Galea-Hewitt is the inaugural Royal New Zealand Ballet Foundation Scholar for 2022. She performed with the Royal New Zealand Ballet in 2021, having joined as a guest dancer in Giselle and Loughlan Prior’s The Firebird with Paquita.

Monet grew up in Auckland and trained at the Philippa Campbell School of Ballet under tutors Philippa Campbell and Joye Lowe. 

Monet was an Associate with the New Zealand School of Dance. At age twelve, she was a Finalist in the Junior Division of the Alana Haines Australasian Awards, and in 2018 was placed second in the Supreme A section. She was also awarded second place at the Sir John Logan Campbell Awards. 

Monet was the winner of the Junior B section, Asian Grand Prix Auckland Region 2018, and a gold medalist at the 2018 Adeline Genée Awards in Hong Kong. 

In 2018, she moved to London to commence training at the English National Ballet School. She completed two and a half years at the School before returning home to New Zealand in 2020.
