Macy Cook joined the RNZB as one of two Friedlander Foundation Scholars in 2021. Due to an injury which prevented her from rehearsing and performing for an extended period during 2021, her scholarship was renewed for 2022 and she became an Artist in 2023.

In 2021 she performed in works such as Sarah Foster-Sproull’s Ultra Folly and Andrea Schermoly’s Within Without which have been huge highlights for her.

Born in Wellington, Macy trained at Chilton Ballet Academy pre-professionally and was a Scholar and Associate with the New Zealand School of Dance. At age thirteen, she won the Supreme A section of the Alana Haines Australasian Awards, gaining direct entry to the Youth American Grand Prix Finals in New York in 2018 and a San Francisco Ballet School Summer Intensive scholarship.

Macy was selected for the RNZB National Mentor Programme and completed an internship with the RNZB in 2019, before joining Houston Ballet Academy’s Professional Program on a training scholarship. During this time, she performed with the Houston Ballet in Stanton Welch’s The Nutcracker before returning to New Zealand to join the RNZB as a guest dancer for The Sleeping Beauty. She also danced in Sarah Foster-Sproull’s The Autumn Ball at the Festival of Colour in Wanaka 2021 and Liam Scarlett’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
