Jemima Scott joined the Royal New Zealand Ballet in 2020 as a guest dancer for Venus Rising and The Sleeping Beauty. In 2021 Jemima officially joined the company as the inaugural Royal New Zealand Ballet Foundation Scholar. At the beginning of the year, Jemima performed as the main woman in Within Without for Tutus on Tour, and performed a Coryphée role as well as a solo in Paquita. Jemima was promoted to company Artist in 2022.
Jemima grew up in Wellington, New Zealand and started dancing at the age of four with Paula Hunt. She trained at Mt. Eden Ballet Academy, European School of Ballet, The National Ballet Theatre and the Bottaini Merlo International Center of Arts in Munich. Jemima was also a scholar and associate with the New Zealand School of Dance for six years.
Before joining the RNZB, Jemima competed in the Prix De Lausanne (2020), came third in the Alana Haines Australasian Awards (2019), won the ballet section at the Performing Arts Competition New Zealand (PACANZ), placed second in the Sir John Logan Campbell Ballet Awards, and was a finalist in the Sydney Eisteddfod. She also gained her RAD Solo Seal in 2018 and was a finalist in the Genée Awards.
With the RNZB, Jemima has also performed Pas De Quatre, Wilis in the corps de ballet of Giselle (2021), a scavenger in Loughlan Prior’s The Firebird (2021) and a fairy in Liam Scarlett’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream (2021). In 2022, she performed as Step-sister Madeleine and The Fairy Godmother in Loughlan Prior’s Cinderella, and had roles in Shaun James Kelly’s The Ground Beneath Our Feet, The Waltz of the Pohutakawa Flowers from Val Caniparoli’s The Nutcracker, Alice Topp’s Aurum, Sarah Foster-Sproull’s The Autumn Ball and Twyla Tharp’s Waterbaby Bagatelles™. In the Ballet Bites digital season she performed in Alice Topp’s Absence of Light and Andrea Schermoly’s Within Without.
