George Thomson – 2021 Friedlander Foundation Scholar
George Thomson grew up in Christchurch. He trained at Southern Ballet and was a scholar with the New Zealand School of Dance. George joined the RNZB for The Ryman Healthcare Season of The Sleeping Beauty on secondment from The Australian Ballet School, before being awarded the Friedlander Foundation Scholar.
While at The Australian Ballet School he has held the role of Vice School Captain and was selected to represent the school at Canada’s National Ballet School on a three-week exchange programme. During his time at The Australian Ballet School George has danced in many ballets including his favourite La Tarantella Italiana choreographed by Leigh Rowles. Another memorable achievement after gaining this contract with the RNZB was being selected to participate in the
Youth America Grand Prix New York finals.
George is one of two 2021 Friedlander Foundation Scholars.
