Ella Chambers joined the Royal New Zealand Ballet as a guest in October 2018, capping off her graduate year at The Australian Ballet School. She performed in The Nutcracker as a Snowflake and Pōhutukawa Flower before joining the company as an apprentice in 2019. She was promoted to Artist in 2020.
In 2019, Ella performed works including Napoli as part of Tutus on Tour, danced the role of a Swan in Black Swan, White Swan by Mário Radačovský, Serenade by George Balanchine and was a Dew Fairy in Hansel & Gretel by Loughlan Prior. Her 2020 roles include Penny Saunders’ Berceuse (Tutus on Tour) and Little Red Riding Hood in Act III of The Sleeping Beauty.
In 2021, Ella’s performances with the RNZB included Within Without by Andrea Schermoly, Pas de Quatre by Jules Perrot, Peasant and Willi in Giselle, the Paquita corps de ballet as well as a fairy in Liam Scarlett’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
In 2022, Ella had roles in Loughlan Prior’s Cinderella, Waltz of the Pohutakwa Flowers from Val Caniparoli’s The Nutcracker, Olivier Wevers’ The Sofa and Twyla Tharp’s Waterbaby Bagetelles™. She also performed as Korimako in Laura McQueen Schultz and Nick Schultz’s Tāne and the Kiwi. In the digital season Ballet Bites she performed in Sarah Foster-Sproull’s Artemis Rising.
Ella was born in Sydney, Australia. She started dancing at La Vive Classique in Port Macquarie, at the age of eight. From there, she auditioned for The Australian Ballet School and in 2014 moved to Melbourne to commence full-time training. During her time there, her favourite role was Cupid from the second act of Don Quixote.
