Calum Gray joined the Royal New Zealand Ballet as an apprentice in 2019 after graduating from the New Zealand School of Dance. He was promoted to Artist at the beginning of 2020 and has performed several solo roles, most recently Lysander in Liam Scarlett’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream (2021).
Calum was born in the UK and took up dance at the age of eight. At fourteen, his family emigrated to New Zealand, and he began to pursue ballet as a potential career path. At age seventeen, he entered the New Zealand School of Dance, from which he graduated in 2018. In his graduation performances included the second movement pas de deux from Sir Kenneth MacMillan’s Concerto and After the Rain pas de deux by Christopher Wheeldon.
