Annaliese Macdonald joined the Royal New Zealand Ballet as an Artist in 2020 after joining the company on contract for Bold Moves in 2019 and performing in Serenade by George Balanchine and Artifact II by William Forsythe.  

During her first full year with the company, she appeared in solo roles in The Sleeping Beauty (2020), including the White Cat and the Fairy of Honesty. She also created a short work, Days of Yore, as part of the RNZB RAW studio performances in July 2020. In 2021, she was a soloist in Paquita, whilst also performing in Giselle and Loughlan Prior’s The Firebird. She also choreographed her second work, Limerence, as part of RNZB RAW 2021 studio programme.  

Annaliese trained at the McDonald College and The Australian Ballet School. During her time at The Australian Ballet School, she represented the School in Japan at the Orchard Ballet Gala and was the recipient of the Graham Murphy Contemporary Award for Excellence. 

During her time at The Australian Ballet, she danced in regional tours of Giselle (2017) and Coppélia (2018). She joined The Australian Ballet as a corps de ballet member in 2019, where she performed roles in Christopher Wheeldon’s Alice in Wonderland, Maina Gielgud’s Giselle, Alexei Ratmansky’s Cinderella, Sylvia by Stanton Welch and Peter Wright’s The Nutcracker.
