The creation of a brand new ballet offers you the chance to go behind the scenes and see what it takes to transform an artistic vision into a full-scale production with choreography, costumes, and sets.
This August, choreographer Francesco Ventriglia and Oscar-winning designer James Acheson (The Last Emperor, Dangerous Liaisons, Restoration) will transport you to the time of Renaissance Verona and Shakespeare’s great love story as the RNZB presents the company’s first new production of Romeo and Juliet since 2003. Set to Prokofiev’s passionate score, this exquisite ballet features over 70 costume designs – six costumes for Juliet alone! – and eight sets that move seamlessly between 13 scenes, inspired by Franco Zeffirelli’s classic 1968 film.
We aim to raise $100,000 in philanthropic donations toward Romeo and Juliet and hope that you will be part of our journey as we bring to life all of the splendour and seduction of Shakespeare’s original tale.
We invite you to Partner a Character and get close to Romeo and Juliet before it premieres. This is your chance to engage with a favourite character, meet the dancers who embody the role on stage, attend a rehearsal, go behind the scenes at the RNZB, and have your name – or that of a loved one – acknowledged alongside your chosen character in the programme.
As a Partner, you will be recognised as a key part of the ballet family through a range of special opportunities and acknowledgements personalised for our most valued supporters. We are offering one partnership opportunity for each character in Romeo and Juliet, ranging from a Mandolin Dancer (with a gift of $1,500) to Romeo ($10,000). You can Partner a Character alone or through a syndicate of friends who join with you to make a donation.
We also welcome general donations to support the creation of Romeo and Juliet. We are pleased to thank donors of $250 and above with regular updates on the production’s development and through acknowledgement in our Romeo and Juliet programme.
Join us as we share the world’s greatest love story through a dramatic new ballet. See details and initial images of Romeo and Juliet and read more about Partnering a Costume.
