Yuri Marques

Born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil Yuri Marques started dancing at nine years old. He trained at Spinelli Escola de Dança. He entered the Youth American Grand Prix in 2012 and made it through to the finals in the 2014 competition.  He was offered scholarships for Joffrey Ballet in Chicago and New York, the Miami City Ballet, Bayerische Staats Ballet and accepted one with the New Zealand School of Dance.  He entered the Prix de Lausanne in 2013 and was offered a scholarship with Hamburg Ballet which he did not take up. During his two years with the NZSD he danced the Paquita pas deux for the 2015 Graduation Season. In 2016 he and another NZSD student were invited to dance the Act 3 pas de deux of The Sleeping Beauty in Tahiti. He also danced with the Royal New Zealand Ballet for the New Zealand tour of Giselle in 2016 ahead of his NZSD graduation in 2016.

Yuri joined the RNZB as a company member in January 2017.
