Wellington-born Alayna Ng has been dancing since the age of four, graduating from the New Zealand School of Dance in 2006. While still a student, Alayna performed with the RNZB in The Wedding and Giselle, before joining the company in 2007.
Alayna has been applauded by critics for her performances in 2014’s Allegro: Five Short Ballet where she performed in Balanchine’s Allegro Brillante and Larry Keigwin’s Mattress Suite. Her leading performances in Andonis Foniadakis’s Selon désir won critical acclaimed during the RNZB’s tour to UK and Italy in 2015 and again as part of the RNZB’s Speed of Light mixed bill which was a hit of the Auckland Arts Festival and the New Zealand Festival.
2016 marks Alayna’s tenth year with the RNZB. Additional highlights of her decade with the company include: working alongside Ethan Stiefel as rehearsal assistant, during his creation of Bier Halle for the company’s 2013 Made to Move mixed bill, performing Mustard Seed in Liam Scarlett’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream in 2015 and 2016.
In addition to performing with the RNZB, in 2010 Alayna qualified as a Pilates instructor and she is currently studying extramurally through Massey University, working towards a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Nutrition.
