Born in Newcastle and raised in Canberra, Australia, William Fitzgerald started dancing at the age of eight with Kim Harvey School of Dance. He then commenced full-time training at the New Zealand School of Dance in 2012.
During his time at NZSD William danced the lead role in Parish Maynard’s Fractals, and Jo Funaki’s Rise. He also danced a solo performance of Val Caniparoli’s Aria and the pas de deux in Sir Kenneth MacMillan’s Solitaire.
William joined the RNZB in 2014 and has since performed notable roles in Martin Vedel’s staging of Coppélia, Mattress Suite by Larry Keigwin and Massimo Moricone’s A Christmas Carol, Adrian Burnett’s staging of Don Quixote, and Jiří Kylián’s Soldier’s Mass. In Liam Scarlett’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, William performed the role of Demetrius.
During the RNZB’s 2015 UK and Italy Tour, William performed in Ethan Stiefel and Johan Kobborg’s production of Giselle, Andrew Simmons’ Dear Horizon, Andonis Foniadakis’ Selon désir, and the principal role in Javier Du Frutos’ Anatomy of a Passing Cloud.
